DMA Compatibility
You can enhance DMA compatibility to make sure the multimedia contents on your DiskStation are played smoothly on your DMA devices.
Please note that transcoding will apply to every device once you have enabled this function. However, the results of transcoding may be accepted by some DMAs only, depending on the media formats supported by your DMA.
To enable audio transcoding:
-
Tick Enable audio transcoding and the following checkboxes to enable transcoders if your DMA does not support the following audio formats: FLAC, APE, AAC, OGG, and AIFF.
-
Tick Downsample audio files during transcoding to provide better DMA compatibility if you would like to reduce the data rate of audio files and provide better DMA compatibility.
-
Click Apply.
To enable video transcoding:
-
Tick Enable video transcoding and enter the video file extensions to be transcoded.
-
Click Apply.
Note: This function is only available on specific models.
To help DMA identify multimedia file formats:
-
Tick Enable customized MIME types and enter the customized MIME types.
-
Click Apply.
About MIME Types
MIME types, also known as Internet media types, can improve the compatibility of multimedia files with DMA
by specifying the type and sub-type of media files. You can customize the MIME types to help your DMA device
identify the correct file formats.
To manage the list of DMA devices:
-
Tick Restrict access to Media Server for newly detected UPnP/DLNA devices if you do not wish to leave Media Server open to new devices.
-
Click Device list to see the list of DMA devices found by DiskStation.
-
Do any of the following:
-
Tick or uncheck the checkboxes to allow or disallow the devices to access Media Server.
-
Double-click the fields under Profile and choose the correct type for your devices from the drop-down menu.
Note:
Default profile will be used if Media Server cannot identify the type of your DMA device. If your device is not listed here, you can try using Generic DLNA (for devices that support DLNA) or Generic Non-DLNA (for devices that do not support DLNA).
-
Click Refresh if you want to make sure the device list is up-to-date.
-
Click Save and Close to save your changes and close the Device list window, or click Reset to cancel the changes and restore your previous settings.
